GAT: luminosity

In astronomy, luminosity is the total amount of energy a star radiates in one second. Compare with absolute and apparent magnitude. With the exception of white dwarfs, stars are grouped into one of six luminosity classes:

Ia     Bright Supergiant
Ib     Supergiant
II     Bright Giant
III    Giant
IV     Subgiant
V      Main-sequence
